PSYCHIATRIC CARE WITH JESSICA ADWELL, MSN, CRNP, PMHNP-BC
Your mental health is just as important as your physical health.
If you're reading this, something’s probably been wearing on you for a while. Maybe you've tried a medication or two and they didn't do what you hoped, or you've gotten used to feeling worse than you should.
I believe your mental health is just as important as your physical health because it affects your relationships, your work, and how you show up for the people who depend on you.
You deserve to be taken seriously, and you shouldn't have to justify how you're feeling first.
Whole-person care
I want to understand what's actually happening in your life, not just work through an intake form. Together, we'll build a plan that fits your goals, your circumstances, and what you can realistically manage right now.
I also believe good psychiatric care means looking beyond symptoms when there's reason to do so. When clinically indicated, I may order labs such as thyroid function, B12, vitamin D, folate, or ferritin to look for medical contributors that could be affecting how you're feeling.
Medication can be an important part of treatment, but it's rarely the whole picture. We'll also consider sleep, movement, nutrition, stress, and the other factors that affect your mental health.
What to expect
-
Time to talk through what’s really going on, without feeling rushed
-
Care that considers your symptoms, circumstances, and overall well-being
-
A treatment plan that reflects your needs and what feels manageable for you
-
An ongoing conversation about what’s helping, what isn’t, and where we go from here
The best part…
knowing what to expect
No more feeling like you have to figure everything out on your own. No more leaving an appointment feeling like your concerns weren't fully heard. No more wondering whether your treatment plan actually fits your life.
With self-scheduling, online visits, direct provider access, and a wholeheartedly invested partner, you’ll finally experience psychiatry that feels good and fits your life.
And we've worked to make the financial side just as simple. We're in-network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO plans, St. Luke's Health Plan, and United Healthcare — and self-pay options are available for those who prefer them. You can learn more on our COST OF CARE page.

I most often work with people who are navigating their mental health:
-
I especially enjoy working with women and mothers who have spent so much time caring for everyone else that their own needs have been pushed aside.
-
I work with adults navigating depression, anxiety, and the ways these conditions can affect everyday life.
-
I enjoy working with patients who want to understand their ADHD and actively participate in finding an approach that works for them.
-
The best work happens when we can communicate openly, pay attention to what is and isn't working, and adjust your care together.
If you’re motivated to make changes and ready to put in the work, we’ll make a strong team
Education & Experience
-
I've spent more than a decade in psychiatric care. I started in critical care and psychiatric nursing at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham, moved into outpatient psychiatry at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and have spent the years since in outpatient practice — first as a mental health clinic nurse, then as a nurse practitioner. Along the way I've done inpatient crisis care, complex medication management, long-acting injectable medications, and clozapine monitoring.

A little about me
My husband and I make lattes at home every morning, and we're always looking for a new coffee shop to try. I listen to an unreasonable number of audiobooks, and my favorite hours are usually with family and friends in the middle of an ordinary week.
Movement is also part of how I take care of my own mental health. I'm in the gym most mornings, not because I'm training for anything in particular, but because of what it does for my head.
I also know how far out of reach that can feel when you're depleted. So when exercise comes up in our visits, I'm not going to hand you an hour at the gym and call it a plan. We'll start with whatever is actually possible for you this week.
